Christ Speaks

Jesus explains the Parable of the Weeds and teaches that the kingdom of heaven is like hidden treasure and a priceless pearl worth sacrificing everything for. At harvest, angels will separate the righteous from the wicked.

Philip asks Jesus to show the Father. Jesus replies: “Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.” He promises the Holy Spirit as Helper, peace, and greater works for those who believe and obey Him.

Jesus describes the signs of the end times: false messiahs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, and the abomination of desolation. After great distress, the Son of Man will come in glory and gather His elect.

Jesus announces the hour of His glorification and teaches that unless a grain of wheat dies, it cannot bear fruit. He must be lifted up to draw all people to Himself and calls us to walk in the light and become children of light.

When asked the greatest command, Jesus says: Love the Lord your God fully and love your neighbor as yourself. The scribe agrees, and Jesus tells him he is not far from the kingdom of God.

Jesus answers two challenges: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” To the Sadducees, He teaches that in the resurrection people are like angels and God is the God of the living.
